Terms of Service

The hosting at void-star.net is monetarily free, however this is offset by slightly more stringent site requirements than a paid site. The rules for obtaining, and keeping, a free hosted site are laid out below. (Note that unless otherwise specified, all rules apply to both domain and subdomain hosting). If you are unclear on any of these terms, please feel free to ask for clarification.

New Applicants

  1. Applicants must provide a link to an existing site with their application.
  2. If possible, the provided URL should be of the site for which hosting is required. If this is not possible, a link to another existing site should be provided, along with an explanation of the content of the proposed site and a description of why it could not be uploaded at the time of application.
  3. Submitted sites may be personal (e.g. weblogs), fandom related (e.g. information sites, fanfiction/-art archives, character shrines), portfolios (e.g. art, webdesign, writing) or a combination of the above.
  4. Sites that are primarily commercial in nature will not be considered. However, tasteful advertising for commissioned work is acceptable. Links to CafePress, deviantART, Lulu and similar personal, print-on-demand stores are acceptable.
  5. If the site that requires hosting may contain material of a controversial nature (e.g. fanfiction/-art, explicit material, 'wank'/drama sites, political advocacy, et cetera), please be sure to note this in the application. Sites with such material will not necessarily be rejected out of hand (see below) so long as full disclosure is given at the time of application.

Hosted Sites

  1. Hosted sites must be active. A site that has not shown evidence of active use for a period of no less than three months may be suspended.
  2. Sites may go on hiatus, however a notice should be provided detailing the approximate length of the hiatus. If evidence of activity has not resumed after this time, the site may be suspended.
  3. Sites must not be used to perform activities that are illegal or would otherwise bring disrepute upon void-star.net. This includes using hosted sites for the purpose of spamming or harassment, advocating activities such as hate-crimes, providing information on the creation or use of illicit drugs, incitement to violence, large download archives of copyrighted materials ('warez') or other, similar activities. Sites found containing such material, or any other material that is found to be objectionable, will be terminated immediately.
  4. Individual site owners are solely responsible for all content hosted on their webserver. If they choose to 'sub-let' out space further to other individuals, they will also be held responsible for the content uploaded by those people. Similarly, site owners are responsible for updating and maintaining all potentially vulnerable scripts installed at their sites. Sites that are found to have been compromised by hackers or script kiddies due to the negligence of the site owner will be suspended.
  5. Ultimately, I reserve the right to suspend any account, at any time, for any reason; this is the price paid for a 'free' service. In general, however, all due care will be taken to notify the site owner of the reason for a suspension should it be warranted.
  6. Users may self-terminate their accounts at any time.
  7. Where an account is terminated due to breach of this ToS, reasonable effort may be made -- on request -- to allow the user access to the last known copy of their files for download and removal.
